Birchard Public Library
In July, 1873 President Rutherford B. Hayes announced a gift from his Uncle Sardis Birchard to found a free public library in Fremont, Ohio. Library service began in 1874 from a downtown location and, in 1878, moved to the permanent library built on the historic War of 1812 site of Fort Stephenson. Today the library serves as the county district library and includes a main library on the historic Fremont site and three branch libraries in Gibsonburg, Green Springs, and Woodville.
Birchard Public Library has been a member of CLEVNET since 1999.
